Planning our Title 

FONT

For our title font we are deciding to use Compacta, as is it commonly used in thrillers to help create suspense. Compacta is described as narrow, vertical, and having condensed letters. The blocky and compressed lettering of Compacta aligns with the intensity of thriller movies. Compacta will be the font for our main title, as it is a very dramatic font and creates more emphasis. To add variety to our fonts for any other titles throughout our movie, we decided to use Alternative Gothic No. 1, specifically when it is capitalized. Similarly, Alternative Gothic No. 1 capitalized has narrow, vertical, and condensed letters, which creates a bold effect commonly seen in thriller titles. Capitalized Gothic No. 1, however, is more versatile than Compacta, so we will use it for our subheadings.  

WORKING TITLE:

“Just Behind You” - We chose this title because of how it ties into the overall theme of the sequence and the short shot where it’s shown. Throughout our sequence, the stalker will be closely following the victim, meaning that he is literally just behind her. The title will also tie in very well with the title card because it will be shown in a scene where the stalker is walking behind her. 

HOW WILL THEY ENTER AND LEAVE THE SCREEN:

For our main movie title, it will be a side shot of the victim walking on the sidewalk and as she walks past the camera. The movie title will appear following just behind her, and this ties back into our title as it is going to be “Just Behind You”. For other smaller credits, we are going to try to place them in creative ways, an idea we have is that we want to have the character close a textbook while the name of the credit appears on the front. Other ways would be a credit appearing as a character gets up, or just having them fade in the corner. 

WHERE WILL YOU PLACE THEM:

For the main title of the movie, it will be in the center and cover most of the screen. For different credits, like the producers and actors, it will be smaller. Those credits will be worked into different scenes like in the corner or in the background. The director’s credit will be much larger, similar to how the title was. 

SIZE:

Our movie title will be the largest text on the screen, filling as much of the frame as possible since it introduces the film. The “directed by” credit will be medium size, and actor names will be smaller so as to not distract from the opening sequence. 

COLOR:

For font color to create contrast and to allow the viewer to easily read the font, we plan to use red or white. For our movie title name will are going to make it red. This will allow it to stand out to reader and suggest danger. For any other title such as actor names, or label of the production company will be in white. White and red will stand out in contrast to the film as we are planning to color grade the film to have a gloomy and dark setting. 

 

HOW LONG WILL EACH TITLE BE ON THE SCREEN BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS:
The title should be on the screen long enough for the reader to read three times, which will be 5 seconds. While 2-3 seconds is sufficient, the few extra seconds will evoke a sense of unease.
