Genre Decision: Thriller
We chose the genre thriller because they rely heavily on camera techniques that create discomfort and suspense, such as tracking shots, over the shoulder angles, Dutch angles, and close-ups. These choices would help to visually mimic the experience of stalking, like someone following or observing a target. The mis-en-scene typical of thrillers such as minimal lighting and heavy shadows also would help us to build an unsettling atmosphere. Since our story centers on the hidden threat of a stalker, these visual elements help to create a sense of danger without relying on explicit violence. Sound effects in thriller movies such as panicked breathing, high-pitched strings, heartbeats, or whispers help to also raise tension. This genre will help our audience feel the stalkers presence through our victims fear without using weapons.
